Coach Chris Jans has his first official member of his 2023 recruitment class. Gai Chol, a 7’0”, 230-pound center from Greenforest Christian Academy, officially committed to Mississippi State University Saturday morning on Twitter.
Chol is originally from South Sudan but moved with his family to Georgia in ninth grade. He earned 15 scholarship offers over the past few years. He announced his top seven schools on Twitter just two days ago.
Mississippi State beat out Chol’s other top schools, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Cincinnati, and Wofford, due to the playing style and family atmosphere according to the newest Bulldog.
In his junior season at Greenforest, the center made his stature and presence known on the defense. He blocked 2.7 shots, grabbed 1.3 steals and seized 8.4 rebounds per game. He also put up 9.7 points per game while converting 64% of his field goals and 67% of his free throws.
Chol is listed as the No. 171 player, No. 23 center in the country and the No. 10 player from Georgia according to 247Sports and was primarily recruited by assistant coach George Brooks, per 247Sports, who coach Jans kept on from former coach Ben Howland’s staff.
